Vodafone launches app for AI manipulation
From 22 October, Vodafone Verify will analyse photos, videos, voice messages and documents for signs of AI manipulation.

Vodafone is launching the Vodafone Verify mobile app in the Czech Republic on 22 October. The service gives users a probability assessment of possible AI manipulation in photos, videos, voice messages and documents.
The app was developed with Synhawk, the company founded by AI researcher Matyáš Boháček. Users can upload a file or link, after which the service analyses various signals and provides an assessment with an explanation. Vodafone stresses that the result is not definitive proof of authenticity or forgery.
According to an Ipsos survey commissioned by Vodafone, 24 per cent of Czechs say they have had personal or indirect experience of AI-related fraud. One third of respondents say they are not sure whether they could recognise a deepfake video; 41 per cent are unsure about recognising an AI-generated or manipulated photo.
Companies were also surveyed. Nine in ten IT or cybersecurity managers expect more AI fraud, while 31 per cent of companies consider themselves well prepared. Vodafone reports that 31 per cent have already encountered fraudulent payment requests or changes to bank details in which someone was impersonated.
The application will be available for Android and iOS from 22 October. According to Vodafone, customers with Black subscriptions and many business subscriptions will have the service included. Other customers can activate the app for Kč 59 per month excluding VAT.
For broadcasters and production companies, such a layer of checking could be relevant for material arriving via social media or unknown sources. However, the app does not check a complete chain of provenance such as a provenance standard or editorial verification process. A probability score can provide additional information, but does not replace source checks, metadata analysis and human assessment.
Vodafone is also working on Verify Meetings, for identifying deepfake participants in online meetings, and Verify Network, a security feature intended to be integrated directly into the network. No launch dates or technical performance data have yet been published for either service.
Fact check Approved
