Democratic chess
All readers play one game together: one half with white, the other half with black. Each side votes on its move, and every day at noon (Amsterdam time) the move with the most votes is played.

How it works
- On your first visit you join the side that is to move at that moment, so you can vote straight away. You stay on the same side for the whole game.
- When your side is to move, choose a move on the board and vote for it. The board then locks; you can change your vote at most once per hour. You only see the votes of your own side.
- At noon the move with the most votes is played. In case of a tie, the piece most readers chose takes priority, with that piece's most popular move. If that is still a tie, the move that was voted for first wins. Then the other side is to move for a day.
- If nobody has voted, the position stays as it is until there is at least one vote at noon.
- After every move you can see what you chose, what was played and how the votes were divided.
- After checkmate, stalemate or a draw, a new game starts the next day at noon, and if possible you then play the other colour.

One vote per browser; from one network at most one new vote per hour counts. To remember your side and your vote, the site sets a functional cookie with a random number (vector_schaak); it is not linked to a name or account. Dutch readers play in the same game via the Dutch page.
