Amsterdam Centraal without trains for a day
ProRail is closing the station completely on Saturday 3 October for track works.
Amsterdam Centraal will not be accessible by train at all on Saturday 3 October. ProRail is closing the station to connect new tracks and modify the railway signalling system.
From 3 to 5 October, ProRail will carry out work at and around Amsterdam Centraal. On Saturday 3 October, no trains will run from, to or via the station. On Sunday and Monday, train services will remain heavily altered. Passengers should therefore expect diversions, extra crowds and longer journey times.
The work is part of the station’s redevelopment. ProRail is connecting track 11a to the railway network and disconnecting track 14a. This requires not only the rails to be modified, but also technical installations in the station and the traffic control centre. The railway signalling system determines which trains can run safely.
According to ProRail, the complete shutdown on Saturday is necessary to carry out the modifications to the signalling installations. The work is therefore not limited to the platform or the visible parts of the station. The rail infrastructure manager calls the weekend an important step in the further redevelopment of Amsterdam Centraal.
NS advises passengers to use metro lines 50, 51, 52 and 54 on Saturday between Amsterdam Centraal and, among others, Amsterdam Amstel, Duivendrecht, Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA, Amsterdam Zuid and Amsterdam Lelylaan. Passengers can also travel via Amsterdam Muiderpoort and Amsterdam Sloterdijk. Replacement NS buses will run on some routes during the night.
According to NS, an NS ticket is generally valid with the recommended alternative transport operators. At the same time, the carrier warns of heavy crowds and advises passengers to check the journey planner shortly before departure. The precise consequences of the work for individual journeys depend on the route chosen and the time of travel.
