Mistral buys AI start-up for advertising campaigns
With Pimento, the French AI developer is acquiring technology and staff for its own Vibe assistant.
Mistral AI has acquired French start-up Pimento, a company that makes software for developing advertising campaigns using artificial intelligence. The price of the transaction has not been disclosed.
Pimento was founded in Paris in 2022 by Florent Facq and Tomás Yany. The company developed software that helps marketing teams create advertising materials from a brief and a brand identity. According to the law firm that advised Pimento on the transaction, the start-up works with more than 180 brands.
According to the same source, Pimento’s teams will become part of Mistral AI. They will work on Vibe, Mistral’s conversational assistant, previously known as Le Chat. Mistral is therefore acquiring not only software, but also specialised expertise in marketing and creative processes.
According to The Next Web, Mistral confirmed the acquisition to news agency AFP. The company referred to a sum of several million euros, without naming an exact amount. Other reports cite different figures, meaning the financial scale of the transaction cannot be reliably established.
It is also not yet clear what will happen to Pimento’s existing product and the brands that use it. The acquisition could mean that the technology is primarily integrated into Vibe, but Mistral and Pimento have not presented a fully public plan on this.
According to public reporting, the purchase is Mistral’s third known acquisition in 2026. Earlier transactions involved Koyeb, a serverless cloud infrastructure company, and Emmi AI, which focuses on artificial intelligence for industrial simulations.
The move fits a broader trend in which AI companies seek to own not only models, but also applications for specific business processes. That is an interpretation of the acquisition strategy, not a final conclusion announced by Mistral. For marketing companies, however, the development does mean that model makers can target their software and customers directly.
