Nothing launches headphones with three drivers
The Headphone (1) Pro gets a more extensive audio configuration and costs 349 euros in Europe.
Nothing has officially launched the Headphone (1) Pro. The over-ear headphones use three drivers per earcup, ten microphones for active noise cancellation and cost 349 euros according to the manufacturer.
The new headphones are the more extensive version of Nothing’s first over-ear model. The most notable technical difference is the three-driver architecture: a driver for low frequencies, a precision driver and an xMEMS driver for high frequencies. According to Nothing, this division should control different frequency ranges more accurately.
The device uses ten microphones for active noise cancellation. Nothing specifies an adaptive ANC mode with maximum attenuation of 46 decibels. Such figures are technical product specifications and do not in themselves say how much less sound each user actually hears in a given environment.
The Headphone (1) Pro supports Bluetooth 6.1, LDAC, multipoint connections and spatial audio with head tracking. There is also a physical switch for a flat equaliser setting. Nothing says the tuning was developed partly with Metropolis Studios.
The specified battery life is up to 68 hours without active noise cancellation and up to 30 hours with ANC enabled. When using LDAC, the specified playback time is lower. The headphones weigh 327 grams and come with a protective case, an audio cable and a USB-C cable.
The European recommended retail price is 349 euros. This positions the model above the standard Headphone (1), but below some established premium headphones from Bose, Sony and Apple. An independent assessment of sound quality, wearing comfort and the practical operation of ANC falls outside this news report.
The launch mainly shows how manufacturers in a mature headphone market are trying to distinguish themselves with specialised audio components and additional software features. Whether three drivers offer consumers an audible advantage depends on the tuning, source quality and personal preference.
