Oura postpones US flotation over market uncertainty
The smart-ring maker delays its Nasdaq listing despite saying demand for the shares is strong.
Oura is postponing its planned US flotation because of uncertainty in the initial public offering market. The company has not announced a new date for its Nasdaq listing.
Oura announced on Tuesday that the flotation was being postponed. The company says demand for the shares is strong, but that market conditions do not offer a suitable moment for the flotation. Chief executive Tom Hale says the company wants to choose for itself when it goes public.
The original plan involved issuing 50 million shares and listing under the symbol OURA. Documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) gave a preliminary range of $40 to $44 per share. The documents had not yet received final approval when the postponement was announced.
Oura presents the decision as a matter of timing, not as a change to its growth plans. In a press release, the company says it is profitable, growing strongly and that sales of the Oura Ring 5 have accelerated the growth in the number of paying members.
According to its corporate forecast, Oura expects to end the 2026 financial year with 5.7 million paying members. For that financial year, the company is forecasting 90 per cent revenue growth compared with the previous year. These are Oura's own expectations, not independently audited forecasts of its future market value.
At the midpoint of the proposed price range, the flotation could have raised approximately $2.1 billion. A large proportion of the shares on offer came from existing shareholders, meaning investors would not only have put money into the company but also given early investors the opportunity to sell their stakes.
The postponed listing is therefore relevant to more companies than Oura alone. The company is seen as a test of whether investors value smart health products as preventive-health technology or primarily as consumer electronics. Until there is a new date and price, the postponement says more about uncertainty in the capital market than about Oura's ultimate success.
