Hornbach sees online sales nearing half a billion
The DIY retail group grew in the first half, partly driven by demand for cooling and irrigation products.
Hornbach recorded online sales of €485.8 million in the first half of the 2026/27 financial year. The group’s total revenue rose by 6 per cent over the same period to €3.8 billion.
The figures cover the period from 1 March to 31 August 2026 inclusive. Hornbach says growth was supported by demand for seasonal products, including items for cooling, sun protection and irrigation.
In the Netherlands, the company names air conditioners, fans and sun protection as products that sold better than average. Garden irrigation solutions were also popular during the dry summer. Hornbach links this development to the hot and dry weather, but does not provide separate revenue figures for each product group.
Online sales grew by 8.6 per cent to €485.8 million. That represented 13.5 per cent of the group’s total revenue. Online sales include orders placed through online shops and digital transactions linked to stores.
The operating group Hornbach Baumarkt saw revenue rise by 5.9 per cent in the half-year to €3.6 billion. The group’s adjusted operating result came to €285.6 million, 4.9 per cent more than in the same period a year earlier.
Hornbach says it had a market share of 29.8 per cent in the Netherlands between January and July, compared with 28.8 per cent according to the GfK measurement for 2025 cited by the company. In August, the stated market share reached 32.2 per cent.
The company maintains its expectation that revenue for the full 2026/27 financial year will be at or slightly above the level of the previous financial year. Hornbach expects the adjusted operating result to be approximately at the 2025/26 level.
The figures do not provide a complete picture of developments in the Dutch DIY market. Hornbach reports at group level and links Dutch market shares to a separate market measurement. The figures do show, however, that online sales have become a substantial part of revenue and that extreme summer weather can shift demand towards certain product categories.
