Amsterdam Centraal to be fully closed on Saturday
Due to engineering works, no trains will run from, to or via the station on Saturday; fewer trains will run on Sunday and Monday.
Amsterdam Centraal will not be accessible by train on Saturday 3 October. ProRail is connecting new tracks and modifying the railway signalling; passengers will have to travel via other stations, the metro or replacement buses.
The complete rail closure will last all day Saturday. According to ProRail, no trains will run to or from Amsterdam Centraal that day. NS is also warning that train services which normally pass through the station have been amended.
According to NS, passengers can travel via Amsterdam Muiderpoort, Amsterdam Amstel and Amsterdam Sloterdijk, among others. On Saturday, the NS ticket is valid on the metro. Buses will operate in place of the night trains between Schiphol and Amsterdam Centraal on the nights around the works.
The works are part of the redevelopment of Amsterdam Centraal. ProRail is reconnecting track 11a to the railway network and disconnecting track 14a. This also requires installations in technical rooms and at the traffic control centre to be modified and tested.
Trains will run on Sunday 4 October and Monday 5 October, but far fewer than normal. NS expects particularly heavy crowds on Monday during the rush hour on services between Amsterdam Centraal, Amsterdam Muiderpoort and Utrecht Centraal.
From Tuesday 6 October, no trains will stop at the platforms of tracks 13 and 14. This will make it possible to widen and renovate the platform further. The access points will also be modified and the platform extended towards the new railway bridge.
According to ProRail, the works are needed to make the station suitable for more passengers and trains. Amsterdam Centraal handles approximately 200,000 passengers every day; ProRail expects this number could grow to approximately 275,000 by 2030.
ProRail and NS advise passengers to check their journey in the journey planner in advance and shortly before departure. The situation may vary by route and time. The announced rail closure is the result of scheduled maintenance and not an unexpected disruption.
