KNMI warns of heavy showers in the north
Thunderstorms, wind gusts and locally heavy rain are possible there from Saturday afternoon.
The KNMI has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of the northern Netherlands. The warning applies from Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning and could affect traffic and outdoor activities.
According to the KNMI, showers will pass over mainly the north on Saturday afternoon and evening. There is a chance of thunderstorms, strong wind gusts and locally heavy rain. The warning was issued at 02:43 and was not yet considered an active warning at that time.
Wind gusts of 60 to 80 kilometres per hour may occur during the showers. According to the KNMI, the highest wind speeds are expected mainly along the coast. In total, around 30 to 50 millimetres of rain may fall locally, with higher amounts in some places.
Code yellow means that dangerous weather is possible and that extra attention is needed. It is not a weather alarm and does not mean that the same conditions will occur everywhere in the warning area. Showers can also quickly change in intensity and location.
For road users, poor visibility or water on the road may temporarily cause disruption. Cyclists, motorcyclists and vehicles with trailers are also more vulnerable to wind gusts. The KNMI advises people to continue following the latest warnings and traffic information.
Outdoor activities may also be affected. During thunderstorms, open ground, water and high places are less suitable. Loose objects may shift in strong winds. The warning is mainly intended to give people time to take these risks into account.
From Monday, conditions are expected to become calmer, according to the current forecast. The warning nevertheless remains dependent on new measurements and model calculations. The KNMI may adjust the areas, times or colour code if the expected impact changes.
