From 20 October, ProRail will carry out twelve days of work near Wolfheze. As a result, trains will temporarily not run from, to or via the station; NS will deploy express buses and replacement bus services.
The period without trains begins at 01:00 on Tuesday 20 October and, according to ProRail, lasts until 07:00 on Sunday 1 November. During this period, the deck of a new railway underpass will be pushed beneath the tracks. To allow this, the existing level crossing, sections of track and the overhead wires must temporarily be removed.
The works affect several connections. Express buses will run on the Arnhem–Ede-Wageningen route. In addition, trains will temporarily not run between Driebergen-Zeist and Arnhem or between Driebergen-Zeist and Rhenen. The precise impact varies by day and route; passengers are advised to check the NS Travel Planner shortly before departure.
The railway underpass is intended to replace the current level crossing near Wolfheze. This means rail and road traffic will no longer cross there. According to ProRail, this should improve safety and increase the flow of both cars and trains.
For passengers, the work means more changes and longer journey times. NS warns that replacement bus services may become busy and advises passengers to travel by train via an alternative route where possible. On some routes, passengers may find an alternative via Utrecht, Ede-Wageningen or Arnhem, but this depends on the destination and time of travel.
The works are part of a larger project around Wolfheze. Once the concrete deck is in place, the track, overhead wires and infrastructure must be rebuilt. The twelve-day closure is therefore a temporary intervention intended to bring about a lasting improvement to the level crossing. The information consulted contains no indication that the timetable has already been changed.
