Analogue announced updated versions of its consoles for original Super Nintendo and Mega Drive cartridges on Friday. Pre-orders open on 19 October; the manufacturer gives December 2026 as the shipping month.
The new devices are called Super Nt+ and Mega Sg+. They build on Analogue consoles that allow players to use their existing game cartridges. The announcement was also reported on 16 October by the specialist news site Time Extension. These are new versions of those devices, with changes to connections, controls and casing. Sales are due to begin on Monday, while delivery has been announced for later this year.
Analogue lists a price of $219.99 for both models. That amount is not a confirmed total price for the Netherlands. The stated shipping month is also the manufacturer's schedule: the announcement does not yet confirm actual delivery. Anyone wishing to order a device must therefore distinguish between the opening of pre-orders and the point at which the console is dispatched.
The most significant visible change is built-in support for wireless controllers via Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz. Both models will also receive power via USB-C. Analogue also states that the console can be switched on and off using a controller. According to the manufacturer, game cartridges can be swapped without switching the console off completely, once the current game has been closed through the menu.
The Super Nt+ is intended for Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges. According to the product specifications, it can output video via HDMI at resolutions up to 1080p. Analogue lists support for various video standards and region-free use. The company presents these capabilities as a continuation of the earlier Super Nt; the announcement itself does not yet provide an independent test of how it works with individual games.
The Mega Sg+ is aimed at Sega cartridges. The manufacturer also lists a connection for the original Sega CD and Mega CD. According to the description, an adapter for Master System cartridges is included. The two new consoles therefore differ mainly in the game libraries and accessories for which they are designed, while several changes to controls and power supply are shared.
According to Analogue, both devices use an Altera Cyclone V FPGA, a programmable chip that recreates the operation of the original console. Analogue contrasts this approach with software emulation. The manufacturer's statements about complete accuracy do not, however, constitute independently established test results. The announcement makes clear which technology is used, but does not prove how every game or accessory functions in practice.
Analogue also lists explicit limitations for the Super Nt+. No games are included, and the separately offered 8BitDo SN30 controller is not in the box. Nor does the device support all the features of other Analogue products, such as save states and advanced 4K display modes. Its return therefore offers cartridge owners a new purchasing option, without the announcement demonstrating a general improvement in gameplay performance.
