Shares in CoreWeave rose on Monday after Goldman Sachs upgraded its rating on the AI infrastructure company from neutral to buy. The recovery follows a heavy sell-off in AI shares and concerns about the company’s debt burden.
CoreWeave rents computing power and data-centre capacity to companies developing artificial intelligence. To do so, the company is rapidly investing in servers, chips and energy supplies. This growth strategy is largely financed through loans and bonds.
According to Reuters, the share lost a significant part of its value last week. Investors were concerned about interest rates, the valuations of AI companies and the debts of data-centre operators. Goldman Sachs upgraded its rating on the share on Monday.
The bank expects the limited availability of computing power to support CoreWeave. That is an analyst’s expectation, not an established business result. Goldman Sachs’s rating is also no guarantee that the share price will continue to rise.
The development fits into a broader reassessment of AI investments. In recent years, the sector benefited from high expectations about demand for models and data centres. At the same time, investors are asking when those investments will be converted into stable cash flows and profits.
For Dutch companies, the news is mainly relevant as a signal about the financing of AI infrastructure. Higher interest rates or doubts about demand for computing power could affect data-centre projects, chipmakers and users of cloud services. A one-day rise in the share price says little about the sector’s structural health.
