Revolut and ING outage blocks access to accounts

Revolut and ING customers were temporarily unable to access their accounts or payment methods properly on Tuesday. The outage affected, among other things, logins, card payments and iDEAL transactions.
At Revolut, problems with various services began at around 08:00. According to iDEAL’s status information, payments via iDEAL and Wero were also disrupted as a result.
According to that status page, the outage affecting iDEAL had been resolved by around 14:20. That does not automatically mean that every Revolut function was fully working at the same time.
ING customers also reported problems. According to an overview by the German news organisation RND, depending on the bank, customers were unable to log in, make transfers or pay by card. According to RND, ING’s login was working again later.
The available public information does not provide a definitive technical cause. The problems may be connected to different parts of the payments infrastructure, but this cannot be established on the basis of the reported outages.
For customers, the key distinction is between a temporary payment outage and a problem accessing an account. A declined payment does not automatically mean that money has disappeared or that an account has been closed.
Banks and payment services generally publish a more detailed explanation later. Until then, the only certainty is that there were technical disruptions on Tuesday and that at least some of the services were later restored.
