A Wizz Air aircraft flying from London to Sofia diverted to Budapest on Monday after a bomb threat. A Hungarian Gripen escorted the aircraft, which landed safely according to Hungarian and Romanian reports.

It is believed to have been an Airbus A321neo en route from London to Sofia. The flight diverted after a bomb threat. The aircraft is said to have turned around over Bosnia and Herzegovina and requested permission to land in Budapest.

A Gripen from the Hungarian air force escorted the aircraft to Liszt Ferenc Airport. According to Hungarian reports, the aircraft landed on the second runway at 12.08. The identity of the person who made the report and its precise content remain unclear.

The Hungarian defence minister announced the escort in a Facebook post, MTI and Romanian outlet G4Media reported. The Hungarian air force has previously used similar procedures in response to security reports involving passenger flights.
