Anthropic targets Thanksgiving IPO
The maker of Claude reportedly wants to go public as early as November, but the timetable remains dependent on markets and regulators.
Anthropic appears keen to bring its IPO forward again and may be targeting a listing before Thanksgiving. The timing is not final: earlier reports pointed instead to a postponement until after the US midterm elections.
The maker of the Claude chatbot is reportedly exploring an IPO before Thanksgiving, which falls on 26 November this year. A formal marketing campaign could reportedly begin as early as the week of 9 November. Anthropic has not publicly confirmed the timing itself.
That would bring the company back towards earlier plans for a stock-market listing in the autumn. Reuters reported as recently as September that marketing for the IPO would begin in mid-October at the earliest, while the listing might take place after the US midterm elections. The timetable has therefore shifted several times.
Interest in Anthropic is linked to the rapid growth of the generative artificial intelligence market. Information from the prospectus, which is not yet public, mentioned a possible valuation of more than $2 trillion. That figure is a target or market estimate, not an established market value.
According to Reuters, the prospectus also contains substantial financial commitments. Anthropic is said to have suffered a net loss of $42 billion in 2025 and to have planned at least $518 billion in cloud, computing and infrastructure commitments for the coming years. The figures are based on documents that are not yet fully publicly available.
For investors, the IPO would therefore test whether rapid revenue growth can outweigh high costs and long-term dependence on cloud and chip companies. The company needs substantial computing power to train and run its models. That makes its financing needs large, but also increases its sensitivity to interest rates, competition and weaker-than-expected demand.
Anthropic has previously stressed that safety occupies a central place in its business model. A stock-market listing would bring greater financial transparency, but could also create pressure from shareholders to launch products faster or cut costs. Whether the company actually goes public before Thanksgiving remains dependent on the prospectus, regulators and market conditions.
