De Librije remains only three-star restaurant
The Michelin Guide awards two restaurants a second star and lists seven new Michelin-starred restaurants.
De Librien in Zwolle retains its three Michelin stars as the only restaurant in the Netherlands. In the 2026 edition, Azurite in Delft and SUIS in Schin op Geul receive a second star.
The new Michelin Guide was presented on Monday during a ceremony at the MECC in Maastricht. The selection includes 119 restaurants with at least one star: 98 establishments have one star, twenty have two and De Librije remains the only one with three stars.
Azurite, run by Mario Ridder, and SUIS, run by Ralf Berendsen, are the two new two-star restaurants. Both chefs have long been established names in Dutch gastronomy, but with their current restaurants they receive a second star in the 2026 guide for the first time.
Seven restaurants receive a Michelin star for the first time. They are Ambrozijn in Valkenburg, Bij Sidney in Loenen aan de Vecht, De Cuijt in Mierlo, Le Epifaan in Veeningen, Nassau in Groningen, Rozewied in Kortgene and Wild Atelier in Hoog Soeren.
De Librije retains the highest rating after a year in which Jonnie Boer’s legacy was central. According to Michelin, the restaurant in Zwolle remains at three-star level under the leadership of Thérèse Boer, chef Nelson Tanate and their teams. Michelin cites the continuity of the cuisine and the restaurant’s distinctive signature.
Alongside stars, Michelin also awards Bib Gourmands to restaurants that, according to the guide, offer good value for money. The 2026 edition includes ten new Bib Gourmand restaurants. This distinction is not the same as a Michelin star and is excluded from the count of 119 Michelin-starred restaurants.
Michelin stars are not a government quality mark, but an assessment by a commercial guide based on inspections. Michelin says it assesses restaurants on factors including the quality of ingredients, cooking technique, personality of the cuisine, coherence and consistency. The new list is therefore news about the standing of restaurants in an influential guide, not an objective ranking of all places to eat in the Netherlands.
