The makers of the new Fable News published a first teaser on Monday. The series is being made as a modern animated production and aims to connect familiar characters with an international audience.
The teaser appears under the English working title Fable News. Meneer de Uil and other residents of the Grote Dierenbos are returning in a new animation style. The footage was released through the production’s official channels.
According to the makers, the new series will consist of 26 episodes of approximately eleven minutes. The target audience is children aged 6 to 12, but the makers are also targeting adults who grew up with the original series.
The series is being developed in Dutch and English. The teaser itself is in English, a choice that fits the ambition to bring the production to audiences beyond the Netherlands. The makers hope to sell the series internationally.
The original Fabeltjeskrant began in 1968 and grew into one of the best-known Dutch children’s programmes. The characters Meneer de Uil, Zoef de Haas, Juffrouw Ooievaar and the beavers Ed and Willem became part of the national television heritage.
The new version uses three-dimensional animation instead of the puppets and sets of the original. According to the makers, the familiar characters and the emphasis on short stories with a clear moral will remain. The content of the episodes has not yet been fully disclosed.
Robin de Levita Productions and the digital agency Monks are involved in the production. Creator Jordi van den Bussche, known as Kwebbelkop, is also involved in the project. The makers have not yet announced a definitive broadcaster, streaming service or release date.
The teaser is therefore primarily a first presentation of the project, not an announcement of a concrete premiere. The next phase will focus on further production and talks with potential distribution partners. For viewers, the main point for now is that the Dierenbos is returning in a new visual format.
