Nvidia is investing $3 billion in Meta and will work more closely with the company on its Muse assistant and other AI models. Meta also says in its investor release that it is expanding its planned share issue to fund AI infrastructure.
The investment is part of Meta’s share offering. Reuters reports that Nvidia and Meta want to expand their technical cooperation around Muse, an AI assistant running on Nvidia infrastructure. The companies want to make models and agents work faster and more efficiently.
Meta previously announced plans to invest hundreds of billions of dollars in computing power and data centres. In its latest investor information, the company forecasts capital expenditure of $135 billion to $145 billion for 2026. According to the company, this spending is mainly intended for AI infrastructure, including data centres, chips and networking equipment.
Meta says in its investor release that it is expanding its share offering. The company cites AI investments, new products and the expansion of its computing infrastructure as reasons. According to Meta, Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom had shown interest in jointly purchasing up to $5 billion in shares, but that interest was non-binding.
The investment could tie Meta more closely to Nvidia’s platform. According to Meta’s announcement of the infrastructure partnership, Meta uses Nvidia’s chips and networking products to train and run AI models. The investment amount alone does not indicate how much additional revenue the cooperation will generate for Nvidia.
The deal shows how closely the interests of AI companies and chipmakers have become intertwined. Chipmakers partly finance the customers who buy their products, while those customers use new capital to increase their demand for chips and data-centre capacity. This can accelerate growth, but it also makes companies more dependent on the same investment cycle.
The investment itself does not yet say what will change for European users of Meta’s services. The development is nevertheless relevant to competition for AI computing power and to the question of how companies intend to finance the high costs of generative AI.
