NXP Semiconductors recorded revenue of $3.79 billion in the third quarter of 2026. That is 19 per cent more than in the same quarter a year earlier and 8 per cent more than in the second quarter.

The semiconductor producer from Eindhoven reported on Tuesday that revenue for the three months to 27 September came to $3.786 billion. Gross margin under the accounting-based GAAP measure was 57.8 per cent; operating income came to $1.228 billion.

NXP identifies the automotive industry, industrial applications and data-centre infrastructure as key growth areas. According to NXP, the chipmaker supplies chips for vehicles and systems that regulate communication, safety and energy management, among other things. The company also refers to new applications in which AI forms part of physical products and infrastructure.

Growth did not come from just one market. In its financial report, NXP cites, among other things, a 38.8 per cent increase in revenue in the communications infrastructure and other activities category. According to the same report, revenue from mobile applications rose by 4.9 per cent compared with a year earlier.

NXP expects revenue of between $3.75 billion and $3.95 billion in the fourth quarter. That forecast is not a guarantee of the final proceeds: chip companies remain sensitive to inventory corrections, economic growth and changes in demand from the automotive industry and data centres.

The board has also approved a new $5 billion share buyback programme. That is in addition to the $1.3 billion still available from an earlier programme. Share buybacks can reduce the number of shares outstanding, but do not directly change the company's revenue or production capacity.

NXP identifies AI applications as a growth area. According to the company, it mainly makes components for cars, industry, communications and other embedded applications. The total revenue growth alone does not show how much AI contributes to revenue.
