Anthropic has removed the five-hour limit for verified accounts on the new Ultra subscription. The change does not apply to ordinary Max subscribers and does not remove the weekly usage limit.
According to Anthropic, a usage window for most Claude subscriptions resets after five hours. Anyone who reaches the limit within that window must wait for the reset. Verified Ultra accounts are now no longer subject to that five-hour limit.
The change is linked to a renaming of the most expensive subscriptions. Max 20x is now called Ultra; Max 5x remains called Max. According to reporting on the change, Ultra costs $200 a month and Max costs $100 a month.
The new arrangement is mainly relevant to users who let Claude work for extended periods on programming, editing or other agent tasks. Such a task can be interrupted when the usage limit is reached within a session window. The removal of that limit does not mean usage is unlimited.
Anthropic is maintaining weekly limits, however. These apply to all models and, on some plans, can be supplemented by separate limits for certain functions. The total amount of usage within a week therefore remains capped.
According to the reports, new accounts may still temporarily be subject to a five-hour limit until Anthropic has verified them. The company says it wants to limit fraud and misuse in this way. For business users, nothing changes regarding any agreements on billing, access or administrator settings.
