Albert Heijn will gradually resume grocery deliveries on Friday 23 October. The supermarket chain warns that services will remain limited for the time being following the cyber incident that, according to the company, has affected several systems since 11 October.
According to Albert Heijn, delivery drivers will gradually return to the road from Friday. The chain says around one-third of its usual delivery capacity is available. As a result, customers with a fixed delivery slot may be given a different time from the one they are used to.
Orders placed up to and including Thursday 22 October have been cancelled. Customers who have already paid will receive a refund. Albert Heijn also says that customers whose order was cancelled will receive a €10 voucher once they are able to order again.
The shops are now being supplied normally again, according to the company. The digital price labels and Bonus prices are also said to be working again. The company says the website and the Mijn AH app are partially available, but not all customers can yet place new online orders.
Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall & Gall were hit by a cyber incident on 11 October. The company shut down several systems as a precaution. Ahold Delhaize, the parent company, reported the incident to the Dutch police on 19 October.
Albert Heijn has not disclosed who was behind the incident. Albert Heijn says the investigation is still under way and that there is currently no indication that sensitive customer data was stolen. The company is, however, warning about phishing in which criminals may pose as employees.

Left
Arguments The disruption shows how vulnerable essential consumer services are and why companies must take greater responsibility for continuity and the protection of customer data.
Values Public oversight, consumer protection and the responsibility of large companies.
Consequences Greater oversight and stronger security may increase costs, but reduce the harm to customers and employees in the event of an attack.
Centre
Arguments Companies must recover quickly, inform customers honestly and cooperate with the police and regulators. New rules must remain workable and proportionate.
Values Reliability, transparency and administrative feasibility.
Consequences A phased resumption with clear compensation limits the damage without unnecessarily suspending services for longer.
Right

Values Personal responsibility, enterprise and limited government intervention.
Consequences Competition and liability can encourage companies to improve security without a burdensome new regulatory package.
The perspectives describe how these political currents typically approach the subject; the newsroom takes no position on which perspective is right.
