Anthropic has reported strong revenue growth in amended documents for its planned IPO. At the same time, the long-term commitments to AI infrastructure listed in those documents have risen to almost $900 billion.

Anthropic’s revenue came to nearly $17 billion in the third quarter, Axios reports, citing amended documents for the planned IPO. This is quarterly revenue; the amount is therefore not profit and does not indicate how much money the company retains after costs.

The figures emerge amid an exceptional capital race around artificial intelligence. Anthropic, known for the Claude AI assistant, needs vast amounts of computing power to train models and give customers access to them. According to the documents, contractual commitments for AI infrastructure have risen to almost $900 billion.

That amount should not be read as a bill Anthropic has to pay today. It concerns future contractual agreements and obligations over several years. The final expenditure will depend, among other things, on delivery terms, usage, financing and market developments. The documents do make clear how dependent the company is on access to data centres and specialised chips.

The first public IPO documents also show that rapid revenue growth is not the same as profitability. In the first half of 2026, Anthropic reported revenue of $16.3 billion and a net loss of $80.75 billion, according to the S-1 document. Without further breakdown, the net loss cannot be equated with the AI service’s operating loss.

Anthropic is trying to convince investors that demand for AI services is growing rapidly. In the public documents, the company also reported a large customer base and strong revenue growth. These are accompanied by risks: a limited number of large customers, high computing costs and dependence on technology companies that provide infrastructure or offer Claude through their cloud platforms.

For the Dutch tech sector, the scale of the investments is particularly relevant. European companies buying AI services may gain access to more powerful systems and face greater competition among providers. At the same time, high infrastructure costs could lead to price pressure, concentration among a few large platforms and uncertainty over which AI companies can financially sustain their growth plans. The amended documents provide more insight into Anthropic, but no proof yet that its business model can generate sustainable profits.

The quarterly revenue and infrastructure commitments come from the amended IPO documents as reported by Axios. The SEC document confirms the half-year figures, but does not independently confirm the new third-quarter figures.
